Cleaning off the cobwebs
Digging through my backlog of abandoned projects and weekend experiments, I came across this little gem. An homage to retro arcade shoot-em-ups, I started this as a quick look dev attempt at that old-school gaming aesthetic, and threw together this little concept. After setting up a couple enemies and a wave-based mechanic, I realized it was actually pretty fun to play. Then I put it aside, and moved on, as I do with too many projects.
I think this one has promise. It's a neat little gem I think is worth pushing to the end. There's an actual story to go with it, and ~7 levels worth of events that unfold, and 2 boss fights planned. For the time being, I have just been digging up the assets (I'm not always very organized with these small experiments) and familiarizing myself with the structure of the game again.
Over the next week or so, I'll be working on the storyboards for the first couple levels, and putting together a couple new enemies to test out. I aim to do weekly devlog posts, holding myself accountable for my completion of this project, most likely on Fridays. I look forward to seeing what this becomes, and I'm excited to share that progress here on itch.io.
